Scholarship Information

The 1916 Redan Foundation is honored to award financial assistance in terms of scholarships to eligible employees, caddies and children of such employees and caddies. The goal of the Foundation is to encourage those qualified to further their education, or the education of their children. Scholarships are typically focused on qualified students enrolled in undergraduate Bachelors’ and Associate Degrees, although those applying for graduate degrees and professional certification may also be considered.

In order to be eligible for the initial scholarship and any subsequent awards, the applicant must meet the following conditions:

• If an employee, you must be currently working on at least your second of two (2) consecutive Club seasons totaling at least five hundred (500) hours for the two (2) seasons or four hundred (400) hours in one season.

• If a caddie, you must be currently working in this position for at least your second of two (2) consecutive years during which time you have recorded a minimum of thirty (30) eighteen- hole caddie rounds for the two seasons in total.

• If you are the child/grandchild of an employee or caddie: The employee/parent must have completed at least two (2) consecutive years of full-time employment consisting of at least five hundred (500) hours per year at the Club.  The caddie/parent must have worked for two (2) consecutive years during which time they have recorded a minimum of forty (40) eighteen-hole caddie rounds per year. The child of an employee or caddie may also be eligible if their parent has had at least three (3) years of continuous service at the Club regardless of the number of hours or caddie rounds recorded.

• Scholarship awardees are expected to maintain at minimum a 2.5 GPA to be considered for additional awards beyond the first year.

Individuals will be required to meet the following requirements, to be eligible for selection:

• Completed application form
• Personal applicant letter to the Foundation stating where you plan to attend, course of study, and why you should be considered for a Foundation scholarship.
• Current high school, college or othe relevant transcripts.
• One personal letter of recommendation from a current or former employer, teacher, professor or school administrator.
• Personal essay (300-500 words) answering the following question: "How will this scholarship inspire you to achieve your goals? Highlight your leadership experience through school, community, and/or work activities and what keeps you motivated and focused on your goals."
• Be interviewed by The 1916 Redan Foundation Scholarship Committee

The total number and number of individual awards made annually are ultimately dependent upon the amount of funding available to the Foundation each year. Consequently, individual scholarship awards may vary from year to year.

Submit a hard copy or high-resolution electronic (email to mdrury@shoreacres1916.com) picture while in “uniform” (if applicable) or have one taken in the Club’s office. Make sure the photo is taken close up, i.e. head shot only.

Foundation Interviews with the Scholarship Committee will occur in mid-July with an expected date of July 14th. Interviews will be approximately 15 minutes. Applicants will be notified of the final date and available time slots after the application deadline.

Please Note: The Foundation will consider only fully completed application forms submitted in a timely manner. Awarded scholarships will be made out to the College/University of applicant and to be applied towards tuition and/or additional expenses incurred by the school.
